It has been said that 3rd generation Emerson Stewart cut his teeth on airplane gas and motor oil. Emerson was born and raised at Red Stewart Airfield in Waynesville, Ohio where his Grandfather “Red” was a “Barnstormer” and instructor and his Dad “Cub” is still a flight instructor, corporate pilot and aircraft mechanic yet today.
Emerson grew up with a wrench in his hand and flew on his Grandpa’s lap. He actually could fly before he could legally drive. But Emerson, like many aerobatic pilots had an artistic side to him - so much so, that he attended and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BS degree in Commercial Art.
Emerson combines the graceful art of stick and rudder management with the science of physics and displays one of the best power-off aircraft shows that you will ever see. That’s right, Emerson will perform at two shows and one of them will be 10 minute aerobatic show with the engine shut down on his Citabria aerobatic airplane.
Today, not only is 35 year old Emerson Stewart the Chief Flight Instructor and a licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic for Stewart’s Aircraft Services but he is also a very accomplished aerobatic pilot and aerobatic instructor. Emerson currently holds a commercial pilot license, a glider license and is a multiengine instructor as well. He has well over 10,000 hours of flight time (mostly instruction) in over 200 different types of aircraft. Think of a general aviation airplane and he has probably flown it or taught someone how to fly it. Furthermore, Emerson is a licensed airframe and powerplant mechanic.
Emerson is married to Kim, a Commercial Pilot and accomplished Wing Walker who also manages the office and tows advertising banners for Dayton area businesses. The Stewarts are next door neighbors to Brett and Debbie Hunter and have already started the 4th generation of Stewarts.
